Embracing Change: A Lesson from Rumi and the World Around Us

The world outside trembles with transformation. The scent of rain lingers in the air, weaving through the city’s pulse like an old memory. In Rumi’s Place Café, time slows, creating a pocket of stillness amid life’s relentless motion. The glow of candlelight flickers, its golden hue stretching across the worn wooden tables like a quiet embrace. Outside, the wind shifts, carrying with it the scent of damp earth—the kind that lingers after an afternoon storm.

Here, in this space named after the great poet, I find myself reflecting on how life constantly shifts—sometimes subtly, sometimes with seismic force.

Beyond the glass panes, the world breathes in rhythms of transformation. A drizzle has softened into mist, blurring the edges of reality, as if the universe itself hesitates between one moment and the next. Just last week, the world watched as Indonesia’s Mount Ruang erupted, forcing thousands to evacuate. Entire communities had to pivot overnight, leaving behind homes and embracing an uncertain future.

Similarly, tech companies are rushing to adapt as AI reshapes industries, turning traditional work structures on their heads. Change does not knock politely—it arrives, and we are asked to respond.

With each sip of coffee, I listen—not to the conversations around me, but to the quiet whispers of my own heart. The irony is striking: we are more connected than ever, yet lonelier than before. Messages ping endlessly across digital space, likes and comments create fleeting interactions, but something deeper remains untouched.

Real connection, the kind Rumi spoke of, demands presence—not just proximity. Perhaps this is why places like this café feel sacred, where solitude is not isolation, but an invitation to be truly present with oneself.

The cup is warm against my fingertips, anchoring me as the storm outside fades into memory. Change, after all, does not announce itself with fanfare. It arrives softly, like morning light shifting through the windows, like the wind rearranging the leaves outside. Sometimes, it arrives in heartbreak. Sometimes, it arrives as an unexpected opportunity.
